Promoting liver health awareness for more than 2 decades!
Chennai Liver Foundation (CLF) is a voluntary, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing liver health through awareness, research, and education. Our mission is to provide support, resources, and information to both the medical community and the public, ensuring better diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of liver diseases.
Recognizing the rising prevalence of liver disease, Prof. R.P. Shanmugam founded CLF in the year 1997, laying the groundwork for India’s first dedicated liver health organization. With the support of Dr. Vivekanandan, CLF has grown into a pioneering institution, driving research and education to combat liver diseases and improve healthcare outcomes across the country.

The Liver: Your Body’s Unsung Hero
The liver is the second-largest organ in the human body, weighing 1.2–1.5 kg (2.6–3.3 lbs) in adults. Located in the upper right abdomen, just beneath the diaphragm, it plays a crucial role in keeping the body healthy and functioning smoothly. Divided into right and left lobes, the liver is responsible for over 500 essential functions that support overall well-being.
- Remarkable Regeneration – Can regrow even after losing 75% of its tissue
- Natural Detoxifier – Filters 1.5 liters of blood per minute, removing toxins.
- Nutrient Storage – Stores vitamins (A, D, E, K, B12) and minerals (iron, copper).
- Bile Production – Aids in fat digestion and nutrient absorption.
- Produces bile, essential for breaking down fats and absorbing nutrients
- Metabolism & Immunity – Supports detoxification, metabolism, and immune function to keep you healthy.
